For dates and times of televised games, see the Calendar postings and watch for e-mail announcements. If you would like to be added to our e-mail distribution list, please follow the instructions on our home page. The chapter also advertises sports events gatherings in the "Sports" section of the Houston Chronicle on the weekend prior to the event. For further information visit www.HokieSports.com.
A Season of Relief! In your pre-game rush around the house looking for your gobblers or your favorite maroon and orange T-shirts, please also consider carrying along a few non-perishable food items to donate. The chapter proudly supports the Houston Food Bank annually in our commission to provide a community service. We regularly collect food and monetary donations at all sports events gatherings (more).*
In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, there is an ever-increasing demand on disaster relief, and need for a long-term commitment of response. As alumni, we are proudly reminded of our university motto: "Ut Prosim"... That I May Serve. It is our duty and will to respond to our neighbors in need. Please support this Season of Relief, with a sustained effort through the coming months.
*Donations are only collected at SROs by Erroll Hines, Sports Events Chair North (or another volunteer). Another volunteer is needed at the Fox & Hound to collect and deliver donations. If you are interested, e-mail Shelley Tyree at setyree@houston.rr.com.
The Chapter has an arrangement with two sports bars to have a room/area and wait staff reserved for each event.

Hokies Respect! Two years ago, the VT Athletics Department launched a campaign to foster good sportsmanship among players and fans alike: http://www.hokiesports.com/football/recaps/08182003aaa.html. Our local chapter exemplifies "Hokies Respect", and in that spirit, we support and promote the campaign today by continuing to conduct ourselves as first-class fans. For this reason, when we gather together to support our team, we are also respected by the fans of our opponents, and we may closely interact with them in a way that is fun and engaging. In addition, the SRO management highly values our patronage, and we are very appreciative of their support.
Hokie Kids: SRO's management welcomes children, and requests that they are supervised at all times.
Bowl Games: As long as VT earns a Bowl, SRO's will save us a spot to watch it together!
Please note: the Alumni Association does not make provisions for group ticket sales to local chapters. Therefore, neither the VTAA, nor the Houston Chapter is a resource for tickets to Bowl Games. Local alumni must then purchase tickets through the usual channels on an individual basis. In that regard, the committee respectfully requests that the chapter please refrain from sending e-mail inquiries on ticket availability. However, if someone has Bowl tickets to SELL, we will do our best to inform the chapter promptly via e-mail so you may be contacted directly. E-mail the committee your full name, contact information and ticket details.
Additionally, it is not practical to coordinate group travel to any bowl game on such short notice (~ 3 weeks). Group travel requires a minimum of three months of planning in order to assess interest, collect payments and make provisions for transportation/hotel/tailgaiting arrangements. The committee is very eager to organize a trip to the LSU game in Baton Rouge in 2007, and will communicate future plans to the local alumni as early as possible.
